A lake house on Cherokee wanted a railing that disappeared into the view instead of interrupting it. Here’s a look at the frameless glass railing system going in now, built around a floating staircase and a waterfront retaining wall.
Some homes call for more than a standard railing. This owner wanted a design that reads as part of the architecture itself, not something bolted onto it, so the waterfront view stays the main feature of the property instead of getting broken up by hardware.

Every panel on the retaining wall run is placed to follow the home’s existing lines, so the railing sits with the architecture instead of against it. The floating staircase inside the home carries the same base shoe system, which is what gives it that minimalist, hardware-free look.
Most of our glass railing work sits around a pool or a patio. This one wraps a retaining wall and a floating staircase on a lake property, which calls for the same precision fit with a different set of angles to solve for. It’s the kind of project that shows what a custom base shoe system can do beyond a standard pool deck.
